Say Plus One this year — and take a stand for survivors of sexual violence.
The PrideFest Plus One campaign invites festival guests to donate a tax-deductible gift of $1 — or any dollar amount — at the box office to support an LGBT-supportive charitable cause. Guests may donate at the online box office, onsite ticket windows, or via online giving.
“Sexual violence often goes unspoken or invisible in the LGBT+ community,” said Jorna Taylor, development director, “despite statistics showing gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people are at higher risk of assault or abuse. Up to 64 percent of transgender adults have experienced sexual violence.”
“In order to live proud, our community must first live well. We are honored to support The Healing Center’s vision of making healing possible for everyone.”
Located in Milwaukee’s Historic Walker’s Point neighborhood, The Healing Center offers opportunities for sexual abuse and assault survivors, and their loved ones, to heal through support, advocacy and community education. All services are provided free of charge.
“We are honored to be selected as the 2016 Plus One beneficiary,” said Maryann Clesceri, executive director of Aurora Health Care’s The Healing Center. “The Healing Center assists over 800 survivors of sexual abuse each year. This generous financial support will help us provide extensive trauma-based counseling to survivors.”
PrideFest Milwaukee returns June 10, 11 and 12, 2016. Although the box office is scheduled to open in February, Plus One donations can be made at any time at the PrideFest website.
