Milwaukee Pride announces Rising Star scholarship

milwaukeepride_miadWe’re creating a new opportunity for local design students!

Milwaukee Pride, Inc., in partnership with Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD), has created a fund to support one MIAD student with an annual $3,000 scholarship.

The Rising Star scholarship, which will be performance-based, requires the successful completion of a 90-day summer internship with Milwaukee Pride, Inc.   Through this assignment, the candidate will gain real world experience supporting the advertising and branding needs of a local non-profit organization.

Scholarship candidates are encouraged to submit their portfolios to info@milwaukeepride.org by Monday, April 18, 2016.  The Milwaukee Pride, Inc. Board of Directors will review all submissions, with final selection approved by the organization’s Executive Committee.

All scholarship dollars will be directly applied to the candidate’s educational expenses through the MIAD Office of Financial Affairs. Certain academic requirements apply.

Additional opportunities, including unpaid internships for credit, are also available.

“We have a mission to create opportunities for LGBTQ people, their friends and families in Milwaukee,” said Wes Shaver, president elect of Milwaukee Pride, Inc.  “As an emerging brand, we’re very excited to tap into MIAD’s culture of creative energy, diversity and innovation. The Rising Star scholarship will be both an opportunity for us to teach and learn.”

Milwaukee Pride, Inc. is proud to have Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design among its Proud Partners.  MIAD is Wisconsin’s only four-year, private, not-for-profit college of visual art and design. Together with MIAD, we will help individuals discover and realize their creative potential to live proud.
