Our first-ever Rising Star is Sydney Hermes of Milwaukee.
This spring, Milwaukee Pride, Inc. announced a partnership with Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) to create an annual scholarship opportunity. The Milwaukee Pride Rising Stars scholarship, announced in April, awards one student with a financial endowment and real world non-profit advertising and branding experience.
We are honored to name Sydney Hermes the recipient of this year’s scholarship of $3,000.
As a PrideFest volunteer, Sydney delivered over-the-top, ongoing design support to festival producers, stage managers, entertainers, partner organizations and special guests. She also assisted with office staffing, photographer check-in and media relations throughout the three-day weekend.
“These last few months have been a whirlwind of work and fun,” said Sydney. “Working with Milwaukee Pride was probably one of the most incredible experiences I’ve had so far.”
“It was amazing to be able to create things, and see how they were received by viewers on the internet and at the festival. I’ll never forget having the experience to apply the things I learned in class, and expand them beyond the classroom walls.”
“Everyone was super amazing to work with. I will continue volunteering for this amazing organization in the future. I genuinely hope that others take this opportunity as well. It’s definitely worth it!”
We thank Sydney for her time and commitment in supporting PrideFest 2016!
Applications for the 2017 Milwaukee Pride Rising Stars Scholarship will be accepted after November 1, 2016. Watch for additional updates in the near future.
